TOKYO, Japan — The coronavirus remains active on human skin for nine hours, Japanese researchers have found, in a discovery they said showed the need for frequent handwashing to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pathogen that causes the flu survives on human skin for about 1.8 hours by comparison, said the study published this month in the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal.

CONNECTICUT The coronavirus infection rate in the state took a sharp turn in the wrong direction this week, according to the latest data from the Department of Public Health.
The infection rate jumped to 3 percent in the past 24 hours, on the back of 434 new cases. An additional 14,653 people were tested, bringing the state total to 2,051,670.
Deaths attributed to COVID-19 also climbed by five. Since the pandemic began, there have now been 64,455 cases in the state and 4,559 deaths.
